The island of Boipeba sits 100 kilometres south of Salvador and  has been an environmentally protected area for nearly 30 years. There are no roads or cars; transport is by boat, canoe, horse, tractor and donkey.

 

 

 

Moreré is a fishing village with 250 inhabitants. The island is famous for its fish and seafood and freshly caught lobster, octopus, prawns, crabs and clams are  local specialities. 



 


Moreré has got 3 different beaches, Bainema is a magnet for surfers, Moreré village beach is used by fishing boats and Subaio has got natural swimming pools and a coral reef - ideal for swimming and diving.

 

 

 

 

The village has a primary school, catholic church, a couple of beach bars and several restaurants serving local dishes.
